Stockholm is a haven for bakery enthusiasts – such as myself! Ever since moving to Germany 5 years ago, I have utterly fallen in love with bread, baked treats, and croissants. I love starting my mornings with an espresso and something baked. In a city like Stockholm, there is no shortage of wonderful options! Every morning, there is a new delicious Stockholm bakery to discover.

Stockholm has delightful bakeries offering an array of baked treats from cardamom buns to perfectly crafted pastries.

Whether you're a local or a visitor, there are lots of mouthwatering delights in Stockholm's vibrant bakery scene. Stockholm’s bakers take pride in quality ingredients, artisanal techniques, and cozy atmospheres that encourage you to sit back and enjoy a "fika," the beloved Swedish coffee break. I work as a trip leader and tour guide in Northern Europe, so I visit Sweden frequently. I am on a hunt to find the best bakeries in Scandinavia, and these are my favorite Stockholm bakeries that I have tried so far. 8 Best Bakeries You Must Try in Stockholm

Vete Katten

What You're Ordering: cinnamon or walnut knotted bun

One of Stockholm’s oldest (and most beloved) bakeries is Vete-Katten. You’ll find locations throughout the city, including the train station! Translated as the wheat cat, I am obsessed with this cute bakery chain. In the Norrmalm location, they even have cat sculptures in the window, all made of wheat! Knotted buns are the specialty here, and you’ll find them in a variety of flavors such as cinnamon or cardamom. They are generously sprinkled with thick sugar, which makes the dough less dry. Perfect for dipping in tea or coffee, this is a place to hang out leisurely. But if you're in a hurry, simply take their baked treats with you on the go.

S:T Paul Bageri

What You're Ordering: one of their sandwiches

S:T Paul Bageri brings together modern bakery craftsmanship and a welcoming atmosphere. The bakery offers an impressive selection of fresh breads, pastries, and sandwiches. It is something of a neighborhood staple in Södermalm, so you’ll find plenty of locals chatting over Fika or even working on their laptops. I didn’t find their cardamom buns to be particularly memorable, because the texture was a bit dry and too thick. Their coffee is great though!

Socker Sucker

What You're Ordering: cube croissant in whatever flavor is available

A rising star on the Stockholm bakery scene, Socker Sucker is known for its playful, innovative flavors and techniques. More than just a trend, this place is legit! Croissants are the specialty here—including shaped croissants– and they shouldn’t be missed! On my visit, I had a tiramisu square croissant that was one of the best things I've eaten in Stockholm. The puff pastry was flaky yet crispy, while the filling was rich yet light. How do they do it?!? Each treat is a delightful surprise, making Socker Sucker a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Skeppsbro Bageri

What You're Ordering: cardamom bun

If you can try only one baked treat while in Stockholm, then it needs to be the cardamom bun from Skeppsbro Bageri. It was genuinely the best cardamom bun I've ever had. With a perfect flavor, the texture was pillowy and soft, but still easy to pull apart. A delightful cinnamon-hinted sugar topping is sprinkled on top. Located on the waterfront of Gamla Stan, the location couldn’t be better. Snag a table outside to enjoy the waterside views – but beware of the seagulls who are known to steal baked treats right off your plate!

Lillebrors bageri

What You're Ordering: cardamom bun

Tucked away in the Vasastan district, Lillebrors Bageri is known for its decadent pastries and artisanal bread. Rumored to have the best cardamom bun in Stockholm, I knew I had to visit this slightly out of the way spot. Their freshly baked cardamom buns are often sold out by the afternoon, so it’s best to arrive early. Inside the cozy bakery feels like a whimsical cottage built by Keebler Elves, complete with a wood wrapped counter and shingled stand. On the day I went, my particular cardamom bun was quite underbaked and far too doughy, I chalk it up to bad luck. The flavor was great, and the overall atmosphere here is just lovely.

Krümel Cookies & Crumbs

What You're Ordering: one of the chocolate cookies

I struggle to find bakeries that really specialize in cookies. They don’t have the same prestige as croissants or sourdoughs, so many bakeries treat cookies as a throwaway. Not at Krümel Cookies & Crumbs though! If you’re a cookie lover, then Krümel Cookies & Crumbs is the spot for you. Known for its chewy, flavorful (dare I say, American style) cookies, Krümel offers everything from classic chocolate chip to creative seasonal options like tahini with earl gray macerated cherries. Don’t miss their signature sea salt dark chocolate chip cookie—it’s simple, yet utterly divine. The shop itself is small and inviting, making it a perfect pit stop during a day of exploring the city.

Café & Bageri Pascal

What You're Ordering: Whatever seasonal option is available

Tucked in the middle of a pedestrian shopping street in the Katarina-Sofia neighborhood of Södermalm, Cafe & Bageri Pascal has my favorite espresso in Stockholm. The espresso blend is grassy and smooth, offering the perfect taste and mouthfeel. The staff is friendly and not snobbish, a rarity at some of the coffee shops in Södermalm. The pastry case is full of classics like croissants and cardamom buns, but also seasonal items like a plum & custard puff pastry. Enjoy your coffee al fresco with a seat on their large patio out front.

Fabrique

What You're Ordering: Sourdough loaf or bun

With locations scattered around the city, Fabrique is known for its rustic atmosphere and superior sourdough bread. As soon as you step inside this delightful artisanal bakery, you are greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries. The star of the show at Fabrique is their renowned sourdough bread, crafted with time-honored techniques and using high-quality ingredients. With its crusty exterior and soft, flavorful interior, the sourdough bread at Fabrique is an absolute treat for the taste buds.
