Thanks for the question. I have only ever worn standard swimsuits out of synthetic materials. Never had a problem with them. Just make sure the swimwear doesn’t have metal on it, like for the straps or around the bust, because the metal will get hot in the sauna and could burn you.

You act normal and not like a creep, because saunas are completely non-sexual in Nordic culture. It is a space for cleansing, both body and mind.

Oh wow, I never knew that could happen with contacts! I’ve never had a problem with contacts in the sauna, but I can totally understand why you don’t want to do that again. You’re definitely right that some saunas have little shelves. Those are so convenient. A glasses case would also be helpful to bring along.

I am a glasses wearer too — a lot of places I went to in Germany had little shelves right outside the sauna door designed especially for glasses! (Much better than the robe pocket thing – I usually do that too but my friend once had someone take her robe by accident — with her glasses still in the pocket! So it was a challenge to track it down). However, I still choose to wear glasses to the spa. One time I wore contact lenses in a Mexican temezcal (similar to a sauna) and my contact lenses were stuck on my eyes because the air got so hot/dry, and they were VERY difficult to remove. Just thought I’d share that!
